Theres More To Domain Names Than You Think

It is a fact, that your domain name forms an integral part of your whole internet identity, so it stands to reason, that this should be carefully selected. Here are a few tips on how to be selective.

The first point, is to keep your name short and to the point. Although it is quite legal, to have a domain name, of up to 63 characters, this is impractical, as it becomes very difficult for people to remember and allows for too many typing errors. Rather try to make it as simple as possible and easy to remember. Try to also keep within your website theme. That way, people are more likely to find you and you could even help the search engines, with the use of relevant keywords. If possible, try to keep the name under 8 letters.

Secondly, give careful consideration to the suffix. There are many suffixes available, such as .com, .net, .org, .co.uk and so on. The most common of these and the search engine default, is .com. If, for example a search is raised for “The Pizza Palace” and there just happens to be more than one, then your browser will automatically give you the .com version first. The business “The Pizza Palace.org” will lose out. Try to stick with .com. If you do have more than one suffix for your website, you can park your domains and point them all to your site. This way, any other search for your name, will still bring the customer to your website. Be sure to make the domain.com, your default.

Thirdly, timing is an important factor. What this means, is if you have a choice, then get on and register it, before someone else does. The price on domains has dropped and some hosting companies are even offering free domain names, to sweeten their deals. It might happen, that the name you want, is already taken, so try then, to take one as close to your first choice, as possible. It is also advisable, to check when this domain is to expire. You might be able to get the name you wanted, by waiting for it to expire and then rushing in and buying it, before the present owner remembers to renew. Another thing that is in your best interests, is to buy up all the suffixes with your name and anything closely resembling it. It is very frustrating, after the time and expense in advertising, to have a prospect arrive at your competitor’s site, through a small error, such as the suffix, a hyphen, or a spelling mistake. Why help his campaign?

The fourth point, deals with trademarks. Avoid using trademarked names. Stay away from any well known and branded names. Don’t try to be clever and muscle in on these, it will cause trouble. Just be original.

Fifth. Be very careful, when it comes to punctuation. If at all possible, stay away from strange words, foreign names, hyphens and any other uncommon uses of characters, that may lead to confusion. You will lose the search race and your opposition might benefit. Typically, URLs use only letters, numbers and dashes. They are not case sensitive and no spaces, or other symbols, are allowed. If you really have to use a space, then use an underscore, so there is no break in the words.

For our sixth point, you will need to ask your family and friends for their opinions. Write down a few names, check if they are available and then ask others, what they think. If still confused, leave it for a day, or two and then try again, with a fresh approach.

Seventh and last. A domain name lasts for ever, but the subscription doesn’t. You are normally required to pay, for a full year in advance. Make a careful note of this date and make sure to renew your subscription, before someone else grabs it. There is no worse disaster, for an internet marketer, than to lose his domain, give his traffic to someone else and have to start all over again.

The groups in ascending order are prospects, customers, clients, supporters, advocates and partners.

How To Make Money With Affiliate Marketing

One of the easiest methods of making money on the Internet and one that requires very little technical skill, is affiliate marketing. Sometimes referred to as referral programs, affiliate programs are normally commission based sales, for selling someone else’s product. You recommend a site to your visitors and then pick up a percentage of any sale that those visitors may cause. You benefit from the commissions and the merchant benefits from the additional sales.

If you already have a website set up, you can run an affiliate program from it, or you can simply build a site to promote a particular product or service. As long as it brings in more cash than it takes to build or to run it, you'll be fine.

With any marketing program, you'll need to be careful when you select an affiliate program. The benefit of an affiliate program will give you another way to make money from your users. Instead of selling them a product of your own, you simply send them to a partner site and then take a cut of the resultant profits.

Even though it may seem tempting to go for programs with the highest commissions, those programs won't pay you anything if your visitors don't buy them, so it is better to recommend a decent product than a costly one.

5. Be sure that top level support is included. If they can't answer your questions in a quick and timely manner, you don't want to work with them.

6. Look for reviews to see what others are saying. It is not necessary to actually buy and use every product you want to sell, but you must be sure that you are recommending a decent product from a reputable source.

If you are just starting out, you should always use common sense and not rush into anything. As you become more familiar with how things work, you'll be well on your way to making a lot of money - and enjoying making it.

I love predictions, horoscopes and all that "unreal" stuff and I'm already looking up forecasts for the years ahead, but that's just "playing".

We would really like to know what to do to change our situations and make real money, wouldn't we?

Well, I'm forecasting a couple of big changes for the next year or two.

1) I predict that we will soon be doing everything on our mobile phones. This includes advertising, promoting, searching, music, TV, selling and paying and more. I reckon PCs, Cd and DVD players, websurfing etc will no longer be as we know them, but move to mobile phones.

I think all info, indexes, etc will be available on the cellphone and everybody around the world will move in this direction. In a mail in January, I will introduce you to this huge business concept.

2) I predict that the 3 major search engines, namely Google, Yahoo and Bing will strive to change the game in some big way.

3) I predict that social media (maybe even Facebook) will start a new search engine facility.

4) I predict that blogging and article marketing will also change radically and head off in another direction.

5) I predict that the electronic cigarette will be more widely accepted as socially acceptable and embraced as a far healthier alternative to tobacco smoking.

6) I predict that we all become more aware of our ecology and our carbon footprints and huge strides are made in alternative energy.

7) I predict that more people realize the importance of health and start getting fit and watching their diet.

Let's see if I'm right on these points. Remember, you heard it here!

One of the most successful and therefore, most popular methods of marketing online is using articles.

Article marketing is a very versatile medium and is actually a very broad definition. Article marketing includes short articles, longer reports, blog posts, bundling of articles into an e-book and of course writing an e-book, but these methods need different versions of marketing.

How successful has your article marketing been? Are you attracting tons of visitors? Are you selling tons of products through your affiliate links at the end of each article? Are you being sought out as an expert on your topic? No, not really? I thought so! This does not mean you are doing anything wrong. It also doesn't mean you are not writing well. You may be trying very hard and submitting your articles to hundreds of other sites, but it is just not working as you had hoped.

You know all those article directories you have been submitting to? How busy are they? I mean how many articles do they have in their article base? How many authors do they have on their lists? I bet they are getting tons and tons of traffic!

Now for those who are not sure what I'm talking about, article directories are websites that specialise in free articles. These articles are usually placed there by marketers who write articles on a particular subject. The reason they place them there is that millions of people search daily for advice and many are re-routed to these article banks. Thus the individual marketer attracts attention, readers and maybe buyers, from another powerful source.

Each article is allowed to include the owner's biography. The biography explains who the author is, what he or she does and carries a link to their website. Affiliate links and sub-domains are not usually allowed, but once the visitors arrive on your site, you can quickly show them your promotions.

Articles directories are a great place to promote your articles so that they will gain maximum exposure and make you money. By using this method, people who are interested in your product or service will see your article, view you as somewhat of an expert on the subject and will probably visit your website.

Even if you cannot write well, or do not have sufficient knowledge on the subject, you can buy PLR articles, or you can always hire a freelancer to write for you. I have often run short of time and suffered from writer's block which threatens my deadlines and had to take the easy way out. You can buy bundles of well written articles within a specific niche. Once these people see your biography, they can click through to your website, where you immediately capture their email details and show them your products for sale.

Remember too, that this creates good quality back-links for you.

There are numerous article directories out there for you to utilize. Your bet best is to place a copy of each of your articles on every article directory you can find, for maximum exposure. It will help immensely to bring more traffic to your website, which will lead to new orders and more profits.
